How do you begin your makeup application? Start with a smooth canvas that is blemish free. If you have great skin, a tinted moisturizer or a little loose powder is all you need. If not, there's always concealer, foundation and powder to create that perfect canvas on which you can apply the rest of your makeup.

If you are using a tinted moisturizer, then you can dab it on with your fingers and spread it evenly over your skin. That can also be done with liquid foundation, but a makeup sponge would give thicker foundation, a more natural look.

How to apply foundation

1. Take your makeup sponge and wet it. Squeeze out the excess water.
2. Place the sponge in tissue paper and squeeze again to ensure the sponge is not too wet.
3. Dot the foundation on your nose, forehead, cheeks and chin.
4. Use the sponge to blend the foundation over clean skin until it is smooth and even.
5. Cover your dark rings by dipping a makeup brush into concealer and painting over the dark rings. Cover all blemishes as well with a little concealer using the brush as well.
6. Dip a powder brush into translucent loose powder and dust lightly over face to set the foundation.
