I used clinique clarifying lotion 2 when I was a teenager and found it rather mild. Now, as an older woman with a horrible acne breakout and having just recovered from eczema on my face, I turned to Clinique again to clear my skin. Clinique Clarifying lotion 2 is the second mildest clarifying lotion. 1 being the most gentle and 4 being the strongest.
In the past, after wiping my skin with a cotton bud soaked with a clarifying lotion, I'd see the dirt, dead skin cells and other gunk from my skin stuck on the cotton wool. This time, I didn't see any gunk. On top of that, it stung my skin. Something that never happened in my youth. I guess it must be my skin is a lot more sensitive after that awful eczema outbreak.

The lotion has a cooling feeling to it as well. After applying it, this time, I'd rinse it off. It has a strong antibacterial effect. I've used more than half a bottle and my skin has cleared. Most of the acne has gone. Ok. I admit it could also be due to the liquid soap and total turn around skin renewer I used. All from Clinique. The fact is, my skin cleared during the month I've been using these products.
