chanel lipstick review
If you are looking for the perfect lipstick, Chanel lipsticks are it. Pricier than drugstore lipsticks, I must admit, but worth every cent. For me, the gorgeous moisturizing satin lipstick, also known as Chanel Rouge Hydrabase Creme lipstick, in 144 Leopard, is my perfect red lipstick.
I've been looking for my ideal red lipstick for ages. It has to be really red, yet not shout like the crude too red, too crass lipsticks seen on some women. You know how the young girls with flushed cheeks and red lips look? That's the look I want. It has to be that shade of red and it must look real. In other words, the lipstick I put on must look like real lip color. I know you can get the effect with a gloss if your lips are a naturally pretty color but mine aren't pretty. I have to paint on the color.
Most red lipsticks, when you wear them look too thick or too red. They stick out, or rather, they scream. Basically, most lipsticks, red or not, glide on too thickly for my liking.
2 days ago, I found my dream lipstick at the mall. Actually, I was looking for on sale items, but Chanel items were full-priced. Still, the color caught my eye. I was deciding between 144 leopard, a red lipstick, and a golden brown lipstick from the summer collection. After taking a look around the other collection, I got the red lipstick and loved it.
The contrast between this and cheaper lipsticks is very stark. While I need a lipbrush to apply other lipsticks, this one glided on beautifully right out of the tube. Other creme lipsticks glide on too thickly to the point that they streak. (Ok, so I'm a little fussy) I loved the way the hydrabase lipstick, though a creme lipstick, went on my lips. It added color like a second skin. My lips did not look made up. Just red, as if I were born that way.
It has a pretty shimmer to it. Not plasticky shine, but a soft golden shimmer, as though very fine, barely discernable gold dust was mixed into the red color.
It felt wonderful on my lips. Moist enough for my dry lips, yet not sticky or gooey in the way cheaper lipticks or glosses often feel. My only complaint at first was that it doesn't last. Then I realized it comes off completely when I wipe my lips thoroughly with tissue paper after eating something. If left alone, it stays put until you wipe it off. I put it on in the morning, it lasted until after I had my lunch and wiped my mouth thoroughly with tissue paper. A touch up takes care of that. No wonder models sip their drinks through straws. Then again, who wants lipsticks that are impossible to remove at the end of the day and which end up staining your lips and ugly brown with prolonged use. Give me my Chanel lipstick any day.
