I've got that problem. An ongoing battle with acne that lasted decades. My skin is dry. Yes, you can have dry skin on top but overly oily beneath. Especially if you have been attacking your acne or fighting off the excess oil with harsh skin care products that dry your skin.

The result? Lack of moisture. Skin that is dry on top but oily below.

I'm at the age where lines start to appear. I've been desperately trying one antiaging product after another and every cream I've tried, no matter how good everyone says these are, all give me acne.

Strivectin as an antiaging face cream

Let's start with the cream everyone's been raving about. Which often gets sold out at stores everywhere. I'm talking about Strivectin. That revolutionary anti-stretchmark cream created to erase those stretchmarks. Apparently, the women testing the cream got the instructions wrong or there was some misunderstanding. They ended up using it on their faces and found that it erases the wrinkles as well. Word of mouth spread and soon, women were putting this stretchmark cream on their faces to erase lines... and were delighted with the results.

I bought a tube of strivectin and applied it on my face and my tummy. For my first child, I had no stretchmarks at all inspite of my 8 pound baby. My doctor who delivered my baby was shocked to see my belly free of stretchmarks. Throughout my first pregnancy, I took very good care of myself. Applying olive oil or aloe vera gel on my growing belly every day and eating lots of fruit paid off in a stretchmark free belly. With my second child, I got lazy and ended up with stretchmarks.

Strivectin felt too rich for my face. Ok for the first week or so but by week 2, tiny bumps were appearing. I continued using Strivectin on my face, hoping to stave off the lines. My tummy loved the cream though but I ran out of cream before the stretchmarks could be erased. I ended up with an acne breakout from using Strivectin as a facial moisturizer.

Verdict: Strivectin might work for most people but women with oily, acne-prone skin should not apply it on their faces.

My beautician had a fright at my next facial. My skin was in a mess. She could feel the new pimples forming beneath, indicating that nightmarish acne breakouts were about to take place. She questioned me and I admitted trying new skin care products. She admonished me for using such rich stuff on my face, reminding me to worry more about the acne possibilities than the wrinkles at this point of time. Women with oily skin should avoid putting rich creams on their faces. Strivectin is good as a stretchmark cream though.

Payot moisturizer

For anti-aging, she recommended I use Payot fluid matifiant instead. She was honest with me. It will not erase existing lines or wrinkles but help delay new ones from appearing. Sorry, there's no way you can turn back time, she told me frankly.

I tried it. A tiny amount was more than enough. Applied over my face, it felt good, kept skin comfortable and soft and did not trigger an acne breakout. I wasn't satisfied though as I'm concerned about the lines my husband complains are appearing on my face.

What else could I try?

Anti-aging supplements

How about keeping the wrinkles at bay by taking anti-aging supplements. The first ones that come to mind are the anti-oxidants that are great for overall health but are they enough?

I came across these thai herbs. Pueraria mirifica. The herb that's taken the beauty industry by the storm. It is the main ingredient in bust up gum and all sorts of breast enlargement creams and all. Actually, that herb is a traditional remedy in Thailand for menopause and women's problems. It is known as their fountain of youth. It firms the skin, makes skin younger, breasts firmer, grey hair turn black, falling hair grow again, nails healthier and is a general remedy that literally fights against aging. That was what I was looking for.

It so happened that female monkeys in some tests who took that herb regularly grew bigger breasts, which turned all the attention on that herb to its breast enhancing properties. It is known to cause women who were born male, to grow breasts as well, so its effects are potent. Apparently 10% of the people taking it do not get that breast enlarging effect, but I'd say it would make a great anti-aging supplement for women. I wouldn't encourage a man to take Pueraria mirifica though.

I ordered the pills. Just took the first pills this morning, hoping to see some effect on my hair loss (I'm totally stressed out as well) and hope to see improvement on my skin. A lower dose can be taken for overall health effect, double that dose for breast enhancement effect. I could use some, make that plenty, of help in that area as well, so I'm going for the higher dose. Bookmark this page as I'll record down the results in a few months time.
